2017 US & Canadian National Championships: Info & Streaming

Russia and Japan have crowned their national champions for the season, and now all eyes will turn towards the US and Canadian National Championships taking place next week! This post will focus on the senior events, but we will provide some information on watching the lower-level competitions as well. More information will be added to this post as it appears.

US NATIONALS

The US National Championships will take place Jan. 14-22 in Kansas City, MO. US Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the 4CC, Junior World, and senior World teams. Skaters who competed as juniors internationally can compete at US Nationals as seniors if they have passed the appropriate USFSA tests. US Nationals consists of five levels in total: juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, and senior. This post will focus on the senior competitions. Unlike other competitions, the US Nationals podium has four spots: gold, silver, bronze, and pewter.

Icenetwork:Icenetwork will livestream all of the lower-level competitions, all of the senior short programs, and the earlier groups of the senior free programs. They will not stream the gala. The stream will be available worldwide, but only for subscribers. Icenetwork will also show backstage interviews and other material on their secondary stream. See here for more info. **ETA: A fan has set up a restream of Icenetwork for the senior events at US Nationals.

NBC:NBC, NBCSN, & Universal HD will air the senior short programs and later groups of the senior free programs live. The gala will not be aired live. Broadcast schedule in EST:

  • 1/19: Pairs’ SP 5:30PM (NBCSN, live); Ladies’ SP 9:30PM (NBCSN, live)

  • 1/20: Short Dance 6:00PM (NBCSN, live); Men’s SP 8:30PM (UniHD, live)

  • 1/21: Pairs’ FS (G2-3) & Free Dance (G2-3) 3:00PM (NBC, live); Ladies’ FS 8:00PM (NBC, G3-4 live)

  • 1/22: Men’s FS 4:00PM (NBC, G3-4 live)

  • 1/28: Gala 2:30PM (NBC, taped)

  • NBC streams:Stream 1, Stream 2, Stream 3, Stream 4

  • NBCSN streams:Official stream (blocked outside of USA), Stream 1, Stream 2, Stream 3

Other TV channels: Japan’s JSports 4 will livestream the entire competition and gala. The official streams are blocked outside of Japan and may require signing in with a TV provider to view.

Youtube: If you can’t watch live, videos from the competition will be uploaded to Youtube very quickly, so you can always catch up later. Search skaters’ names and filter by upload date for the latest videos.


CANADIAN NATIONALS

The Canadian National Championships will take place Jan. 16-22 in Ottawa, ON. Canadian Nationals is one of the competitions used to decide the 4CC, Junior World, and senior World teams. Skaters who competed as juniors internationally can compete at Canadian Nationals as seniors. Canadian Nationals consists of three levels in total: novice, junior, and senior. This post will focus on the senior competitions.

Skate Canada: Skate Canada will livestream all of the novice and junior competitions, as well as the senior practices, on their Dailymotion channel.

TSN/CTV:TSN and CTV will air some of the senior short programs and later groups of the senior free programs. Some of these broadcasts may be live. The gala will not be aired live. Broadcast schedule in EST:
